If the property you're purchasing sits on a canal, bay, bayou, lagoon, or tidal waterway, the seawall is one of the most important — and most expensive — components of the property.
A seawall is a retaining structure that holds the land in place against the water. When it fails, the consequences are severe: erosion, land loss, structural damage to the home, and repair costs that can run into the tens of thousands of dollars. Yet seawalls are frequently overlooked in standard home inspections.
